Counties included are: Shannon, Bennett, Jackson, Fall River, Custer, Pennington, Meade, and Lawrence. Data represent all fatal accidents in the South Dakota Department of Transportation records for these counties, 1983-2001. A large array of statistics were entered in the database for each accident, including date, time, location, weather, road condition, vehicle type, driver age, sex, and protective equipment worn, etc. Sample analyses have been conducted and results are presented at the site. The database was created by Dr. James Taulman, Instructor of Conservation Biology at Oglala Lakota College, along with students in 2 Research GIS courses. The database is available to any interested parties in an ArcView shapefile format.
