- As with most or all North American Indian Tribes, upon the arrival of the European settlers, the Kickapoo (Kiikaapoi) have endured centuries of opression from the United States government and their continuous efforts to assimilate the Indian people. Despite what many would label as a "nation conquered", the Kiikaapoi, along with hundreds of Indian tribes across North America, have survived and are continuing to preserve our cultures and ancestrial lifestyles to an adequate degree. Our survival objectives are aimed at preserving and enforcing our soveriegnty with the principle of self-determination, which assists us in providing our financial security in correlation with our tribally owned programs and businesses.
