Denotified and Nomadic Tribes of India		Asia
The so-called "denotified" and nomadic tribes of India comprise a large and diverse group of indigenous people. Originally "notified" as born criminals in 1871, they were "denotified" after India's independence in 1947. They were originally labelled criminal due to their nomadic lifestyle. People who traditionally lived by collecting food from forests became hardened criminals with the stroke of a bureaucrat's pen. The stigma of having been labelled criminal still clings to them to this day.
