Painters and Paintings from the Highlands of Guatemala Pintores y Pinturas del Altiplano de Guatemala. This on-line museum and art gallery focuses upon contemporary Mayan oil paintings from the highlands of Guatemala. Around 1929, two Mayan Indians, Rafael Gonzalez in San Pedro la Laguna and Andres Curuchich in San Juan Comalapa, independently began painting. Around 1950 Juan Sisay started painting in Santiago Atitlan. The number of self-taught indigenous painters grew slowly at first, each town developing its own style of painting. In 1994 there were more than 30 Mayan oil painters in San Pedro.

Games of chance were quite popular in a number of Mesoamerican cultures; the Aztecs' addiction to the game of Patolli is well known. Fra Diego Duran wrote that the stakes they played for sometimes rose so high that the loser lost not only his wealth but his freedom too, selling himself into slavery to pay his debt. (One should keep in mind that Father Duran may have been prejudiced; he fiercely disapproved of Patolli because the players invoked the names of Aztec gods during the game).

Pawnee Indian Village State Historic Site	Pawnee	America - Central
This is an archeological site dedicated to educating the public about the Pawnee Nation's past, present, and future. The site is located on the grounds of an 1820s circa Kitkehahki Pawnee village. Evidence of this important village consists of earth lodge depressions, cache pit depressions, and remains of a fortification wall. A modern museum encloses the excavated floor of a 2000 sq. foot lodge. All items that were discovered have been left on the floor as they were found. Exhibits, artwork, and audio and video presentations help to tell the story of this great people. It is the only museum specifically for the Pawnee Nation.

The Compania Administradora Comercial Sociedad Anonima is a descendant of the Sociedad Agricola y Forestal Suxaola which, with north American capital, took over lands - abandoned by another company in 1947 - that lay on Talamanca territory, Costa Rica. When the government granted the company a lease to develop 10,000 acres of forest in 1983, Talamanca Indian associations protested to members of Parliament, many of whom received them favourably.
